Pharmacy Technician

SUMMARY

Provides accurate medication orders placed by the Physicians to pharmacies and Pharmacists.  Assists patients by answering simple questions concerning their new or existing prescriptions.  Places refill prescription orders as indicated by physician. Provides patients with information concerning their medications.

QUALIFICATIONS/ EDUCATION 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate/License 
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred; must be able to read, write and speak English. 
  • Receptionist/clerical experience required; healthcare environment preferred. 
  • Basic computer knowledge; MS Word and MS Excel, internet, document with Electronic Health Records and/or authorization system with minimal typing/spelling errors, send e-faxes and email. 
  • Strong people skill, independent decision making and customer service oriented. 
  • Knowledge of Medications; indications, usage and side effects. 

CERTIFICATIONS/ LICENSES 

  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate/License 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that each patient receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining solid medical services knowledge and all other aspects of customer service.
  • Promotes and reinforces patient centered medical home concepts related to medication management with patients and staff.
  • Attends daily center team huddles on an ad hoc basis to facilitate best-practice care of patients and their medications.
  • Provides new prescription orders to the pharmacies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Enters any new or refill orders in the patient E.H.R. as indicated by the physician.
  • Provides patients with answers to their medication ordering process.
  • Informs patients of medication orders waiting for pick-up or of their delivery.
  • Identifies High Risk Medications in the elderly and works with the physician on finding alternatives.
  • Obtains prescription authorizations and follows the carrier’s authorization process for those prescriptions which require prior authorization.
  • Informs patients to bring in all their active medication bottles to each and every physician encounter.
  • Collects data through patient tracking in order to facilitate patient outcome/population health data collection and analysis.
  • Serves as a resource contact and information/education source to patients, families, providers, and/or staff.
  • Scans all documents pertinent to pharmacy services.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain work area clean and organized at all times.
